Set Design and Construction
While in highschool I had the opportunity to explore many different aspects within the theatre and enjoyed set design and construction. As I furthered my education, costumes and sewing became my main focus, but I still had a love for the technical side of theatre. I have had the opportunity to go back to my alma mater as a staff member as part of the technical design team. I have been both the lead, assistant, and co-technical director while also helping with costumes on some of the shows. Having the ability to direct and mentor highschool students has been a wonderful learning experience while solidifying my desire to continue to share my skills and passion with the rising theatre community.

This particular show is very special to me for a couple of reasons. It was the first opportunity to be the lead technical director and having the privilege of working with students to design and execute an impressive, multifaceted set, with many moving parts, including a mainstage stationary set with 4 large trees, and a large staircase, multiple flying set pieces, and an automated body drop mechanism. I also helped support the costume shop, and patterned the witches costume that a student constructed. This show also was my younger brother’s final high school show, and he was cast as the Baker. Having the opportunity to work along with so many talented students, and closely with my brother was the highlight of all of the shows I have been a part of. Production photos linked here

Lord of the Flies

This show was a large undertaking! This base set was 50 feet long, and over 8 feet tall. The most exciting part for me was being able to work as a co-technical director with my Highschool technical director. Using a hot wire tool allowed me to carve the foam rocks, and create a set that was appealing and realistic. Working with the show directors to find a good alternative to an entire stage full of sand allowed for my creativity and skills to be used. Overcoming hurdles in this show was rewarding to watch this classic story to be produced on stage.
